I Prevail – There’s Fear In Letting Go
Ah, sweet October, we’ve reached the bitter end. But we can’t have Spooktober go by without a little blood spilling, now can we? Of course not. I found myself investigating the abandoned church .PALETO.’s SANCITIFIED (available at this month’s round of The Warehouse Sale from October 23rd – November 18th). when I was knocked unconscious. I awoke tied to a chair near some burning candles. The smell of abandoned building was awful. You could smell the rotting wood soaked from the large hole in the roof above, which let all of the rain pour right in, there looked to be blood stains on the deteriorating carpet, yet those candles burned still, ominously.
Every part of my body was aching, blood streamed down my face and onto the suit I had worn. I could feel cuts and gashes everywhere; each shift was pure pain. Whatever happened was serious, and that was never more evident when I managed to get my left eye open and I realized I couldn’t see anything out of it. Maybe temporary, maybe not, too hard to know right now. Whoever did this wanted me to feel it and to know they meant business…
…As I managed to free myself from the ropes that held me to the chair (Sway’s [Tied up] Chair. bloody), I felt movement behind me. A hand slipped over my mouth as I went to stand up and pulled me back against the chair. Now I know what you’re thinking; you could still stand up, Lucky, and you’re right; I could have. But before I had the chance to even consider it, I felt the tip of a blade pressed firmly against my neck. Every thought of trying to move was gone right then.
Behind me stood a figure, with a smaller profile, female, I assumed. She leaned in, and I could feel her hair brush over my ear; it was wet with what I thought was rain. “You thought you were getting away, didn’t you. No body, no crime Mr. Spiritor,” she said before stepping to the side slightly. The candlelight barely lit the room, but I could see she was covered from head to toe in blood, cuts, and bruises from top to bottom. A very large knife was clutched in her left hand.
What I assumed was wet hair from the rain was actually blood, my blood. I didn’t speak because who knew what could escalate this situation. She licked her finger, coated in the blood from the blade, “Mmmm (Yummy) indeed. I might be a Psycho Killer, I might not, shhhhh this will be our Secret,” she said as the blade of the knife pressed into my neck, the pain becoming unbearable before I faded back out…
