Thirty years of Skillet. Eight concerts. A storm at Summerfest, changing lineups, signed memories, Comatose, Monster, and a band that somehow kept becoming part of my own history. Now Scream and After The Storm bring the story right back to where it started: still changing, still fighting, and nowhere near finished.
Project Icon: The story behind why I built the blog I couldn’t find. I really thought I was going to make a few changes, which is probably the funniest possible way to start this, considering what you’re looking at now.
Sometimes losing your place in something you helped build leaves you trying to separate what belonged to it from what still belongs to you.
SCATTERBRAIN’s BITTER got me thinking about Brian Burkheiser, his account of how his time with I Prevail ended, what he’s creating now and what it means to finally tell your own side of a story. The open gates, darkness and light became my way of bringing all of that into the photo.
You can still be angry. You can even be a little BITTER. Just don’t stop building whatever comes next.
The last three years have already taught me that some of life’s best chapters begin before we realize they’re chapters at all. We don’t get to read ahead. We just keep turning the page, trusting that one day we’ll look back and realize another ordinary moment quietly became something unforgettable. Three years ago, simple messages were sent without having any idea how much of my life it would eventually change.
For a long time, the rainbow flag was the symbol of Pride. Created by Gilbert Baker in 1978, it became a banner that represented the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole and remains the image many people immediately think of when Pride Month arrives each June. Over time, additional flags were created to represent specific identities and experiences within the broader community. While the rainbow flag remains an important symbol of unity, these newer flags tell stories that are uniquely their own. So while this post isn’t officially part of the challenge itself, it felt like a natural continuation of the journey.
