WELCOME TO SECOND LIFE

YOU DON'T
HAVE TO KNOW
WHERE TO START.

Second Life is enormous, weird, creative, confusing, beautiful, and very bad at explaining itself. This is the page I wish existed when someone first dropped me onto the Grid.

There is no right way
to do Second Life.

You can build a wardrobe, take photographs, explore strange places, decorate a home, go dancing, write, roleplay, meet people, make art, or disappear into something nobody thought to put on a beginner checklist.

This isn't a manual for doing Second Life correctly. It's a set of doors into the parts of it I've spent years documenting.

You do not need a perfect plan. Pick the thing that sounds useful right now and let the rest of Second Life reveal itself from there.

Start somewhere.
Then wander.

01START HERE

Choose Your Viewer

Before anything else, you need a way into Second Life. Start with the viewer directory and find the client that fits how you want to experience the Grid.

02BUILD YOURSELF

Lucky's Basics

Heads, bodies, skins, hair, and the pieces that make an avatar feel like yours. Use my current basics as a practical reference point, not a shopping commandment.

03GO SOMEWHERE

Explore The Grid

Second Life gets much easier to understand once you stop standing still. Browse places that have appeared throughout the archive and start finding your own corners of the Grid.

The Wardrobe Archive

Hundreds of brands have passed through the blog over the years. Use the Wardrobe Archive to discover creators, see what I actually wear, and follow a brand through time.

Photo Gallery

Second Life is a creative platform as much as a virtual world. Dig into photography, scenes, styling, and the visual side of the archive.

Surprise Me

Once you have your footing, stop following a checklist. Let the archive throw open a random door and see where fourteen years of Second Life takes you.
