I can always count on [Bad Unicorn] to give me something new and unique to beat up Shep with, or in this case, go through the screen. I have said it before and I’ll say it again I love doing creative things (well creative in my mind) to show off something cool. It had been a little bit since I went to using glass and I thought with the Grrreen Hands it might be the perfect opportunity to bust through some and into your world. These were out for the TMD Weekend Sale two weeks ago and yes I am late to the party on that, but you can still find them at the main store for the very reasonable price of L$249. Like everything [Bad Unicorn] if your friend or friends also own the product you have the added option to knock them out too. I’d call that a bonus!
I may be a bit behind on the TMD Weekend Sale stuff, and I mean with how many incredible weekend sales there are, can you blame me? I try my best to keep up with them but lord knows it’s impossible. I am however caught up on the events! At this month’s round of The Mens Dept, you can find the new SEBASTIAN Tucked Tank from cold ash. I, like with many creators, just fatpack anything they do because I know if I buy one color I’ll want another and end up spending more than necessary. The fatpack has 22 colors and I know if you’re like me you probably think tucked-in usually only works with certain pants or shorts. While this is true for the most part, I haven’t run into many issues with this tank working with other brands and styles, I think the work put into is exceptional and you should definitely check it out. The current round of The Mens Dept runs through September 30th so you have plenty of time!
This shot took a bit longer to set up the way I wanted it. I knew I needed to try to get it centered to where my fist was near the middle of the scene to make the glass setup a bit easier and more realistic. I got it reasonably close to what I wanted and then proceeded into Photoshop to work some magic and take the raw shot from what it was to what you see here. Thankfully the shot itself wasn’t terrible and only needed a little bit of love. Then I made sure to add some overlays to get the red and green glare to give it some pop before adding the glass.
The glass is probably the trickiest part of the whole thing. I do have a setup for it that I can use to mimick what I want but it still takes adjustment to get exactly what you want. It starts with a base broken layer, of which there are several choices, and then you add the shards on top of that to really give it the depth you want. After that, you have to work on the layer transparency, what kind of effect you want it to have and then finally add in highlights to make sure it looks real enough. It was a bit of work but I have to say at the end of it I was really satisfied with how it came out. I did some more tweaking to pop the colors more after it was all pretty much together but overall I love the look and that’s why we do this right?
