WHOA. Lucky’s blonde and has no beard? What is this madness? I know, I know it’s outside of the normal look. Sometimes though you just have to do what fits the theme best. This is what we decided was best and here we are! You might notice another blonde co-starring in this particular post with me. Don’t get confused though, it is not the infamous Cori Conundrum. She’s still around but only when required. Today we have someone new to introduce, Miss Mackenzie McGregor. She very willingly opted to be the Barbie to my Ken for this shot and I do think she pulled it off perfectly. I would say get used to the name because you’ll probably be seeing her around here quite often. I’ve grown very fond of her 😉
We took advantage of the stellar offerings from FOXCITY and -Pixicat- from this month’s round of Collabor88 to really pull this off. I can’t say enough good things about both of them and to know they collaborated to make it happen just adds to it. I picked up the backdrop because well I tend to collect those whether I have an idea or not and it just so happened that the day before Mackenzie had asked me if I had an idea for my next post. At that time I really didn’t have any ideas. Then I saw the ad on Flickr and knew I had to pick the backdrop up. After that it kind of all fell into place. I knew I could pull off a version of Ken somehow with everything I’ve already got on hand. Even if I had to abandon my trademark Ginger color to make it happen, I still managed to use a [MAGNIFICENT] hair to achieve my goal. What can I say I’m a loyalist to the core.
I didn’t even have to say much to Mackenzie for her to be all in on the idea. I asked and she was on top of getting what she needed to. I mentioned the dress being there but she was already going to buy it because she fatpacks -Pixicat- just like I do [Deadwool] so I didn’t even have to say it. The rest of her look she handled magnificently. Hell, she even had 2 other outfit options in the event I didn’t want to go with what we used. I was perfectly happy to have it be as Barbie as she wanted to go and matched as best as I could using my on-hand inventory.
I was not a completely smart shopper though. After I grabbed the backdrop I logged out because it was late. So before we shot the photo I went back to Collabor88 to pick up the FOXCITY Dolls V3 pose pack so she had her poses to use but I didn’t open it until I got back home. Guess what the next thing I went to shop for was? If guessed a car, you win the prize. I was determined to find a car that I could make work for the shot because I hadn’t opened the pose pack nor had I read the details. Silly me, but we’ll get to that.
I went to all of my usual vehicle spots to find -the- car that fit what I wanted and none of them had what I thought was right. So I kept looking and finally ended up over at 777 Motors and low and behold I found one. It wasn’t the one I thought I’d want or need but I’ll be damned if it didn’t work perfectly for this.
Now I’m gonna go into a slightly short story here but it’s important. I remember watching something about the Amphicar Model 770 which was made by the Quandt Group and launched at the 1961 New York Auto Show. It was made in West Germany at Lübeck and at Berlin-Borsigwalde, with a total of 3,878 manufactured in a single generation. The name Amphicar is a portmanteau (a word formed, usually intentionally, by combining the sounds and meanings of two or more other words together) of “amphibious” and “car.” It was made and marketed from 1961-1968, though production of the car ceased in 1965.
Back to 777 Motors though, the car I found just happened to be a similar style to the Amphicar. I ended up with the [777] AMPHIDORA because it was the right look and I was able to hide the propellers use for the water capabilities of the vehicle. I still think it’s a great addition to my collection and not one I would have normally sought out. Once I got back home to set up for the shoot I unpacked everything and wouldn’t you know it there’s a damn car in the Dolls V3 pose pack. I could have used it but having bought the other I was determined to make it work.
I finished the idea off with some custom movie posters that are from photos on our respective Flickr feeds to add that personal touch to the backdrop. I also took advantage and for my pose squeezed in a new set from Secret Poses called Sebastian. You can find it at this month’s round of The Mens Dept until July 31st.
