From The Vault: When The Sun Won’t Come Around

“But you gotta hold on
You gotta be strong
Right here with me if it all goes wrong
To keep you from harm
Away in my arms
Steer you away from the storm”

David Cook – Carry You

Holy hell it’s September already! August FLEW by quick. I don’t have anything new ready quite yet so I’m back with another round of From The Vault. This photo was taken on February 13th, 2016 and it never made it into a post or Flickr, a photo from this same shoot did, but it’s quite simple and I wanted to revisit the snapshots. Some of you are probably sitting there and wondering what the point of still working with and posting old photos is. It’s quite simple really, they are a part of my story, all of them, and they’ve all played out in various forms on this very blog. Removing them would be like rewriting the story and I don’t want to do that. It’s like I said in my prior post;

I don’t erase them, I don’t hide from them, just because something ended doesn’t mean the good things that happened before that now have to be wiped out. To me there is nothing wrong with keeping that here because at the end of the day they are part of my story. I think in each of them each side has bad and good and that’s just how life works. We’re not always right and things don’t always work out, but you learn from it all.

Every chapter is it’s own, whether that chapter ended well or not, it had a purpose. I strongly believe in that and as you can see that in how this site is structured.

My main category is “The Chapters” and each has it’s own subtitle. Yes each name has a point to it, no I will not explain them, if you get them you get them, if not, then please enjoy them anyway! Some chapters are longer than others, some have sub-chapters, others don’t. Memories are a good thing to have and all of the people in them have meaning. That’s why digging through the vault is fun for me. There’s something attached to each one, and revisiting those is a good thing now. In the past I wouldn’t have been as willing to dive back into them, but my view on that has changed with the directions life has gone. Appreciate all of the times, learn from them, reminisce about them, it doesn’t mean you’re stuck in them, just that you are acknowledging they happened.

This is definitely on Flickr, shot by Portia, sneaky decorating very late at night. #SecretProjectsAreFunStill

Let’s get back to this photo session though! I remember setting this area up very well, we spent a good chunk of time setting up a small area to exchange vows to one another, with just the kiddos there for it. We had just celebrated our one year anniversary the day before on February 12th which made for a pretty epic three days. Anniversary, Elopement (I guess that’s what we’d call this little one), and then Valentine’s Day. It was a very good time and we took quite a few different photos that night. I’m not sure why I never did anything with them on anything. I definitely went back and checked to make sure I wasn’t crazy and turns out I might be, but no I never used them beyond the the one small one on Flickr.

There was a photo that Portia took prior to this and used in a post that was, and still is, fantastic, as well explaining a bit of our interesting history back then. You can find that in it’s original form on Mask and Mien, as well as over here for continuity’s sake on my end. It is and always will be her post. If Mask and Mien rings a bell for you, hello again, thank you for being around for that long and still reading things. We always appreciated you, and while we have grown apart, I am quite sure we both still do. I thought the first paragraph of her post was particularly fun so I felt like sharing it in this post, because it does help make some sense of things as they were.

Life is funny, isn’t it?

Lucky and I weren’t always an item. Heck, you can even see posts on this blog where I introduce him as my brother because, for the longest time, we were brother and sister in Second Life. Not in the creepy Game of Thrones way (*cough*don’twakethedragon*cough*) but we were closer than friends. We took care of one another, supported one another, and during those times where our lives took us in completely different directions, there was always the security that came with knowing that there was someone, somewhere that accepted and cared for you no matter what. We could always come back.”

Promises” – Portia Pexington, February 10, 2016

We did end up doing a full on wedding a month later, and those photos also never made it into a post by either of us. I will crack into that vault eventually as I definitely remember the them and I -know- I have the snapshots. Plus all of the edited shots from I did from 2016 for our own use at the time. When I say I keep everything, I really mean I keep everything (you’ll see soon enough if you remain unconvinced). It’s come in handy for ideas like this post style. When I don’t have something brand new to write about or take a picture of or an idea just isn’t coming together, I can tap into the vault. There’s plenty in there to play around with and turn into “Something New.”

Thanks to all of you for going on this journey through the past with me. At first I thought it might be a stupid idea because I often overthink things. Thankfully I didn’t overthink it to the point of not doing it at all. It’s been fun to go back through all of these and though their respective chapters have closed they’re still good memories. Getting to look back on them and revive them in different ways from when I initially shot them is a shitload of enjoyment. It’s definitely a post style that has it’s limits in regards to what I have in my vault of snapshots, but who knows what it will turn into, and since it’s only a post style, I can always stop when I run out of ideas or things to use. It will still serve it’s purpose. I’ve got a next post in the works to follow this one and all I can tell you is be prepared for a lot of words and stories and more than one photo. It should be good.

“So let’s run toward waiting lights
’cause I know there’s better skies ahead, ahead
Sand through an hourglass
This flood is gonna pass
And we’ll still be standing, hand in hand”

I know you didn’t actually expect to see credits here right? I mean I love you all, but let’s be fair this -was- over six years ago and I’d be lying to you if I said I remembered what everything was in a photo I never wrote the credits down for. Safe to assume you can find reasonable guesses in posts that were around this same time on our blogs, maybe not everything, but some of them. I appreciate you taking a chance on them being here though. Thanks for reading. ❤

But really this is about as close as I can come to credits for us because it was a long time ago:
