“Dear diary, dear diary
I just had another wild dream
I was in a world that admired me, and when I woke up I was smiling
And that’s irony, that’s irony
You talk a lot but you don’t even know me”
Falling In Reverse – Prequel

Blogging about Second Life can be such an adventure. It’s a way to share your virtual experiences, your style, and all those hidden gems you stumble upon in-world. But let’s be honest, even in a place as ever changing and limitless as Second Life, it’s easy to lose your spark. Whether it’s burnout, feeling uninspired, or just getting stuck in a routine, we’ve all been there. If you’re nodding along, don’t worry. You’re not alone, I’ve been there too many times, and there’s always a way back to loving the creative process.
As you know and have noticed by now I’ve been getting back into my blogging process lately. I took a long break for my own reasons and kind of hit reset on things. I was heavier on sponsors in 2023 and while I enjoyed that and appreciate having them (truly I do) I was worn out. After months of coming up with an idea to fit a certain item I just didn’t want to do it. If you’ve been around here for any amount of time you know how I operate. If it shows up here it’s because I love it. That includes things I’ve blogged that are sponsored, because I love the brands. Ideas though don’t always work with an item or a deadline that you have.
I decided to strip things down and get back to why I started doing this in the first place, because I love to show off what I like, whether you like it or hate it, it’s me, unfiltered, and 99% of the time with credits. So this post in particular is me kind of going through the steps to finding that place where you can enjoy what you’re doing again.
Why? Why did you start blogging in the first place? Maybe it was to show off your unique avatar style, highlight cool sims, or connect with the amazing SL community. Revisit that reason. Write it down somewhere you’ll see it often. Sometimes, remembering what got you started is enough to bring the joy back. For me, it’s “Whatever I Want, Whenever I Want.” It’s the tagline of the blog and will always be.
Shake it up! Second Life is MASSIVE. If you’ve been sticking to the same places or routines, it’s time to venture out. Explore new sims, check out events you’ve never attended, or try something completely outside your comfort zone. There’s always something fresh to discover, and those new experiences can inspire amazing content. I’ve done it before using my alt to break me out the same old same I was doing. That led to “Break The Glass” and opened up a whole new world of ideas to use.
Break the cycle. Feel like you’re in a blogging rut? Switch things up! If your posts are usually image-heavy, try weaving in a story. I’ve done that with this latest series of posts “Searching For Silence.” If you’re all about fashion, why not dip into lifestyle blogging or showcase creative builds? Play around with your format, you never know, you might find a new style that feels exciting again.
Reset and refresh. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh perspective. Experiment with new skins, outfits, or accessories. Try new windlights (EEP, settings whatever we call them now), angles, or editing styles. Updating your avatar or expanding your creative skills can feel like hitting refresh on your entire blog. The amount of times Lucky has changed his look and style. The number of different photos I’ve tried to take and failed (yeah you’ll probably never see those), and of course the ones you have. I’m always amazed at the photos that do well compared to the ones I -think- will do well.
Collaborate! Blogging doesn’t have to be a solo journey. The SL blogging community is full of talented, supportive, and inspiring people. Join the numerous group, comment on other bloggers’ work, or take part in challenges. Being part of a community makes everything more fun, and you might pick up some new ideas along the way. There are so many amazing bloggers out there and most of us just don’t like to leave the comfort of our platforms, but with a little poking and prodding you’ll probably make us move.
Do what you enjoy. It’s easy to get caught up in stats or external pressures, but remember: this is supposed to be fun! So take a step back and focus on the parts of blogging you truly enjoy, whether it’s styling, writing, or staging elaborate photoshoots. Let go of perfection and just create for the joy of it. You all know what I’m talking about. Flickr followers, view count, favorite count, Primfeed followers, likes over there, etc. I know the brands like the metrics and numbers matter, but so much creativity gets lost focusing on just those things.
I often wonder how many bloggers never reach the potential they could have because brands don’t give them a chance. That’s not an intentional shot at brands, it’s a business I know. But even speaking for myself there are some stores I’ve applied to for years and I’ve never gotten one of them. I just keep doing what I’m doing, they may not want to take the chance, but I’ll take a chance on myself every single time.
Breaks are necessary. I know right? Who would have thought? Sometimes, the best thing you can do is step away for a little while. Go explore Second Life just for you. No screenshots, no blog ideas, just pure enjoyment. When you’re ready to come back, you’ll have a fresh perspective and probably a ton of new ideas. You can see the gaps on this very blog of when I stopped posting, when I started again and how much things changed from time to time.
Be proud of yourself! Look back on your journey as a blogger. Think about the posts you’re proud of, the connections you’ve made, and the skills you’ve learned along the way. Give yourself credit for all the time and effort you’ve put in. It’s a reminder of just how awesome you are.
Remember it’s about you. At the end of the day, this is YOUR blog. Don’t let trends or comparisons dictate what you do. Write about what excites you, what makes you happy, and what feels authentic to you. That’s the magic that will keep your creativity alive. Trust me, I’ve tried the just about every way possible and doing what I like always works best.
Rediscovering your passion for blogging is all about reconnecting with what makes it special to you. Try new things, take a break when you need it, and don’t forget to have fun. SL is a playground of endless inspiration; you just have to explore it. So let your creativity run wild. Your blog is your canvas, and the world is ready to see what you create next. I’ll be watching and cheering you all on. Oh, hi Blake.

“I’m unstoppable, it’s impossible
You don’t wanna see the diabolical side of me that never stops, is volatile
So I suggest you stay in your lane
I’m unapologetic, you know where it’s headed
I will never ever let up off the pedal”
