The recovery process is still ongoing. I’m not going to complain too much, though, because it could be much worse, and I’m thankful it is not. So I’ll roll with whatever may still come and carry on as best as possible until it’s all clear. That being said, let’s get into today’s post.
I’ve always treated this blog, this place, the space it takes up, as a repository for whatever it is my mind is on during any given time. If you’ve been here for any length of time, you’ve watched as things have changed; be it, people, situations, or what I write about, it’s always -me-. Sometimes it’s darker, occasionally fun, but it is always authentically Lucky. In all of the time I’ve been doing this, between Mask and Mien all the way to when I moved into LuckySpiritor.Com, post styles have been a thing. I learned that from Portia back in our Mask and Mien days, and it’s something blog-wise that I have carried forward to this day. I have added my own styles to the ones we would have used years ago, and I still use some of the ones from back then.
I look at post styles as a framework for my writing. One of those that has been exceptionally fun to work with for me has been “From The Vault” because it allows me to go back into things I had from years prior and use them in the present. It was one of those styles that initially I wasn’t sure would be received well, let alone if I would even end up loving it. I did know I wanted to give it a shot, though, because if it worked, it was another format I could use to further dive into topics and older photos. Some readers may not understand the point of doing them when I could just do something current. I know that viewpoint on it; to each their own right? I still use plenty of current things and make sure I mix up the content here. I also can see how not everyone wants to or is able to delve back into the past and use it positively. Not everything ends great, as I have said before in posts, and while I am aware of that, it’s still worth sharing the stories and the photos that fit with them.
Naturally, I’m sure by now the question in your head is, “What’s the point, Lucky?” I hear you, and I’m getting to the point now. I’ve never worried about the number of views a post receives, the number of favorites something gets, or comments. It’s not a matter of not caring about any of those, I do care about them, but they are not the metric that ultimately matters to me when a post is done. The metric that matters most to me when any photo or post is published is simple, “Do I like this?” The simple answer is yes because it would not get published if it didn’t I would never post it. You can bet your life on that; I’d be willing to bet my own.
I’m talking about all this because I rarely get commentary regarding a blog post or style. I get comments on Flickr, and I’ll be the first to admit I am horrible at responding to comments. I will own that 110%, and I wish I had enough time to be better about that. Something to strive for, I suppose. My most recent “From The Vault” post got a very thoughtful response (directly, so no you won’t find it) and gave me a little more assurance that doing these kinds of posts was good for more than just myself. I won’t disclose who because that’s no one else’s business. The just of it is on being able to reflect on past things beautifully. Now I won’t say I do it beautifully because even if I thought I do, I’m not going to say that, but the comment saying that was very kind. I try my best to just be real when I write and if it happens to hit the right spot with someone else then that’s awesome.
I can say that it wasn’t always easy to reflect on those things in any format. It took a lot of time and figuring my own things out so that I could make sense of what I was seeing and thinking. But, I will say it was worth it to get to that point because instead of those situations or time periods being viewed negatively, I was able to flip my mindset on the way I looked at them. I made the conscious decision that instead of focusing on what I would call the bad parts, I would rather focus on the good parts and go forward with those. It’s nice to know that the process I went through has led to others hoping to be able to do the same in the future. You know who you are, and maybe there are more who aren’t saying anything that feel that same way, but I hope you do. So, the best suggestion I can give you is to focus on the good parts and just be honest with yourself and what you’re working on. Look for the good things and use those to fuel you; you’ll figure it out, little by little.
