Starset – Waiting On The Sky To Change [Ft. Breaking Benjamin]
I love when bands that I enjoy listening to collaborate on a song. I’m a huge fan of Starset and a very big fan of Breaking Benjamin so to see them take Downplay’s “Waiting On The Sky To Change” and “covering” it was an awesome surprise. For those who don’t know Dustin Bates, vocalist for Starset was also the vocalist for Downplay so it’s kind of a cover, but kind of not. With that being said they absolutely killed this track. I love the layering of the vocals and how they meshed the two bands together to recreate this and make it even more insane. I’ll be honest too, the idea of doing this photo was all Mike’s this time. I helped with pulling things together but he started the idea so their collaboration turned into our collaboration as well.
We started out with (Milk Motion)’s backdrop at this round of Collabor88 and then kind of added and adjusted as we went along. The idea was to be in a less safe “space” so we layered some debris in there and threw in some red lighting that one would expect in an emergency. Creating the depth in the photo outside of Photoshop was important because it gave a view that we could both picture our angles in and work from. There’s definitely Photoshop magic to some of it, but the debris is all real and that was a lot of fun to get just right. Mike found The Chief suits from Infiniti Projects and if you’ve ever been near an Xbox or Microsoft you surely recognize the Halo look that is damn perfect. We thought they were best for what we were trying to do. Mike is rocking the whole outfit in Silver, and I’m rocking most of the Black outfit.
I chose to go with something different than the black helmet. I saw TANAKA‘s Ripper Mask and thought damn I could use that and get just a bit of a different look to contrast Mike. Plus I love what TANAKA makes and if I can find a good way to get them in a project I’m doing then I surely will. What doesn’t stand out to you in a still shot is that this mask is animesh and you’ll have to see it inworld to really understand how great it is. It has multiple texture options as well as holo image options (I chose the ? for this post) as well as setting the color and a couple of animations for the holo image. The mask opens up down the middle as well when touched. I strongly recommend checking it out inworld at the main store to see it for yourself!
The other feature of today’s post, aside from the music, is some more new beard love coming for LeLutka EON at the upcoming round of The Mens Dept! [MAGNIFICENT] fans rejoice as you’re getting more love at TMD September. A lot of great things are in the works at [MAGNIFICENT] and you’ll be seeing more of that over the coming months. I know Stefan is hard at work in the lab coming up with fantastic things for all of us beard lovers. There might even be some more hair too. You’ll just have to wait and see! I promise it’s all worth the wait.
Now as I said at the start this whole photo idea was Mike’s and I just assisted in making it come together for both of us. It’s been quite some time since I did a collaboration, and while this post isn’t a collaboration in terms of writing, it is in photos. It would be wrong of me to not showcase the work Mike did on his own photo. I love seeing the different perspective that each photographer takes when they shoot a photo. No two people see it exactly the same. I know I love seeing what Olakota K. Nobre and Loverdag do with their shots and how they differ, different perspectives at their absolute best!
