Happy Golden Days Of Yore

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
John Legend – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Formal Dinner_Full6

With Christmas rapidly approaching we chose to have our Second Life family formal Christmas dinner and photo before things got crazy. It’s almost a have to with everyone having their own real life plans and obligations. We’re never a group to hold those against one another so we try our best to make something work for everyone. It just so happened that December 14th proved to a pretty much across the board thumbs up. I’d like to think a great time was had by all, we started with a nice formal dinner, then shot our first full formal family portrait, and topped it off with some ice skating on the North Woods grounds. I greatly enjoyed the company of those I’ve grown to call my SL family this past year and I hope it leads to a great many more.

We organized the photo reasonably well, combining single poses, trio poses, and kid poses to make something come together that was truly us. From left to right you have Shae, Chance, and Jaxynn, then Lucky, Aria, and Saucy, Cecilia, and finally Willow, Benton, and Jennah. Aria shot the photos themselves as she had previously taken the photo of Willow, Benton, and Jennah so that I could make sure Jennah was part of the full photo. I had promised our Willow that I would work my bit of magic to make sure their little one was part of the big shoot. Our family time zones are all over so with dinner falling in the middle of her night, we wanted her to at the least be part of that. I’m very glad it worked out well and she was the sweetest thing when she saw the end result.

After it was all said and done I looked at it, and while I -loved- what we had accomplished, I missed Saucy Marie. She’s not been in Second Life for a while now, RL always comes first, but she is forever my daughter, no matter the circumstances. Thankfully Papa keeps snapshots of certain things and was able (with some PS magic work) include her in the photo as well. It was more of a “for me” thing so it’s not in the main edit that the family has. They are welcome to have it if they’d like but as they’ve not met her I felt it wasn’t right to force that onto them.

It’s been just a little over a year since I have come back to being in Second Life now. If you had asked me a year ago where I would be now, I would have never told you it’d be this. I would have said dead honestly that I was going solo and just doing what I wanted to, and that would have been complete truth at that time. I never made a plan to stay longer, let alone permanently. But time has a way of changing things. There have been a few bumps in the road in my year back but overall it’s been something I really needed now that I can look back at it.

I went from having only my SL brother Brennan and his wife Brenna (whose wedding is what made me come back in the first place), along with my SL brother Matt, and an absent fiery ginger daughter to so much more. In the time that’s passed I was reintroduced to a girl whom I only knew from many years back. I took a chance on that by saying to Brennan, “Well I could ask her to prom, doubt she’d say yes but I can try,” to her agreeing to it and the whirlwind that has followed. We’ve had our ups, we’ve had our downs, but even when the times are rough, we find a way. I went from having a very small circle to having quite the SL family and I’m grateful to be a part of their lives and to have them as a part of mine.

Through the years
We all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
