Someone To Sit With

Since, well I guess for the last few years I’ve had a habit of watching a lot of BBC shows on Netflix. They’ve come to be some of my absolute favorite shows out of anything I watch. I’m not sure exactly what it is about them that hooks me. One of those that I’ve been quite fond of since I first came across it is Wallander. It’s based on Henning Mankell’s Kurt Wallander novels, who is portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in this adaptation. I didn’t know anything about it when I first started watching it but I tend to lean towards the crime type shows and it fit the bill. I have honestly probably watched it all the way through at least 10 times now if that gives you any idea of how much I like it.

The other night I turned it on and started to doze off since it was already quite late. As I was drifting off I heard the lines at the top of this post again. I’d heard them before but for some reason in my overly tired state they made more sense. I sat there for a while laying out the basic premise for this shot. Originally the idea was to be sitting on my own, but after I started building it that didn’t feel right. Thankfully I have my lovely alt to fill a role I now view as vital to the image. Adding someone in brought it into focus for me and I hope for you as well. The concept here isn’t about who is sitting with me. It’s about someone, in anyone’s life being there.

I find there are many times where I don’t take the time to really take in and enjoy what’s going on around me. When it comes to Second Life I spend a majority of my time on my platform either shooting an idea or coming up with one. Oddly enough late last night Brennan and I sat down and played a game of Skippie with his friend Aleriah. It was kind of fitting that this happened just after shooting this specific shot because it just reinforced this idea. We had so much fun just sitting down to play a game and talk vs our normal “platform hugging.”

I spent a fair amount of the day laying it all out on my little parcel. I know it’s hard to believe but I actually touched the real land on my SL home. I knew I wanted to use the new Seasonal Maple trees from Botanical in this shot. Kriss Lehmann has always done a fantastic job in everything that he creates and these do not fail to live up to expectations. They come copy/mod and of course use the Botanical Seasonals system meaning they can swap from Spring all the way through Winter. I can’t even begin to say how great they are. Check them out yourself at the store. There is so much to see!

Once I had the trees in place it was time to work around them and for that I turned back to Skye Studio. For as long as I can remember Alex Bader has done an outstanding job of bringing all types of landscaping into Second Life. Odds are high that if I am not using Botanical that I’m using Skye. I had to dig into my folder of landscape doom and pull out the Wild Grass set and set out to laying it around my scene. I have a tendency to go overboard on grass, but damn it just looks so good. I also had to pick up the Skye Cliff & Tower set to finish off my landscaping. I was able to adapt the gorgeous rock work into an offish setup with some handy invisiprim work and it really helped add the extra depth to the shot. Finally I topped it off with What Next’s Waterfront dock and a couple of pieces I purchased from The Domineaux Effect to fill out the space.

Life lessons. There is always a someone out there, find that someone and remember to enjoy the little things. They all add up.
