Perspectives II

A couple of weeks ago we wrote about Perspectives and how each of us can have such a different view even when looking at the same things. I’ve done a couple of shots and posts on my own since that one and while I was happy with the way they turned out, neither has really hit that spot. You know the one that just feels right? Portia and I sat down the other night, to once again try out our perspectives on a photo. Same pose, place, and styling, but completely different shots.

Now clearly I’m not wearing anything in this shot, and that was intentionally done. Like anyone I love doing the explicit photos from time to time, but very rarely if ever do they make it to a post or my Flickr feed. What I do truly enjoy is taking a shot that could be one of those and making it still have the idea while keeping it clean. I’ve done it before with Speechless and it seemed to work out quite well. In a way I enjoy the challenge of giving the viewer the idea without shoving it in their face.

Let me be clear too, I have no issue with photos or posts that are more straightforward with those types of things. Most of the time it’s just not my method of doing it. I get more out of showing the tender, soft side. The focus mainly being the expression on Portia’s face and of course the incredibly well done Julia Boyfriend shirt from Erratic. You can find it in many different colors and patterns at the current round of Collabor88. I manipulated the lighting to draw the viewer there rather then lower where other ideas may be.

As you can see Portia’s perspective is very different from that of my own. She chose to shoot from behind her and “focusing on the intimate moment without being raunchy.” I’m quoting her on that because it fits perfectly. As she said to me, “It’s still sexy as hell, but not in your face.” I agree with that on both shots, each of us went our own direction and left the rest to the audience. Where it goes from there is completely up to the person looking at it.
