What is Red Nose Day?! Red Nose Day is a day to raise awareness and money to help kids who need help the most here in the United States and around the world. “Red Nose Day is on a mission to lift kids out of poverty and has raised over $1 billion globally in the last 25 years.” You can find more information on the RL Red Nose Day at their official site RedNoseDay.Org.
I wanted to do this type of post because helping kids everywhere is important. It’s true when they say the children are the future, because they truly are. It was true when it was us, and it’ll be true for our children and grandchildren and so on. We need them to thrive and grow, be able to learn, someday soon they will be the future leaders of this world. Red Nose Day is something I’ve heard about for a while and I honestly forgot that it was today. I had donated at my local Walgreens the last time I was there, but even just that didn’t seem like enough. So I wanted to do more, and as an SL blogger it seemed like a logical step to come here and share my idea with all of you.
For me, and I’m sure any of you as well, thinking of a child anywhere suffering because they can’t get enough to eat or because they don’t have access to water makes my heart hurt. Anything we can do to help the children of not only the United States but all around the world is a worthy cause in my book. Let’s show people that Second Life isn’t just how the media always portrays it. Between of all the amazing fundraisers we do for those in need to Relay For Life, the SL community is a force. I truly hope that we can get others do this, so here is what I propose.
My challenge to you, outside of donating obviously, is to take a silly picture of yourself, or a group of friends wearing a red nose. Share it on your blog and social media pages using #SLRedNoseDay and encourage others do so. I’ve also setup a Flickr group for all of the photos people take, please do add them to it. I have made a free red nose for anyone who would like to do this and you can pick that up here on marketplace. The idea is to have fun, the real life Red Nose Day is all about having fun and raising funds for the cause. I know May 26th is the official day but that doesn’t mean we can’t carry on with it longer then that. - Donate to Red Nose Day if at all possible (I understand if that’s not possible of course)
- Spread the word. Have FUN with it and tell any of your friends. Let’s grow this.
