I shot the entire thing in black and white. Not because Mono needed it and not because I wanted it to feel dramatic. I did it because the more I looked at the image, the more color started feeling unnecessary. Removing it changed the way I looked at everything. Instead of focusing solely on the styling or the environment itself, I started noticing the shapes. The lighting. The reflections. The way the scene felt instead of what it looked like.
What stands out to me about the white stripe is not just what it represents, but where it sits. Right in the center. Not at the beginning. Not at the end. At the heart of the flag. There’s something meaningful about that placement. The design doesn’t place people who are transitioning, intersex, or non-binary identities at the edges as an exception or an afterthought. Instead, every stripe mirrors around that center point. The white stripe becomes part of the foundation. A reminder that identity has never been as rigid or as simple as people sometimes want it to be.
Few colors seem to come with as many assumptions as pink. Somewhere along the way, society decided that colors should have rules attached to them. Certain colors became associated with certain genders, certain interests, and certain expectations. Over time, those ideas became so common that many people stopped questioning them altogether. The strange thing is that pink is still just a color. It doesn’t tell us who someone is. It doesn’t determine what they should wear. It doesn’t decide what interests they should have or how they should express themselves.
For a long time, the rainbow flag was the symbol of Pride. Created by Gilbert Baker in 1978, it became a banner that represented the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole and remains the image many people immediately think of when Pride Month arrives each June. Over time, additional flags were created to represent specific identities and experiences within the broader community. While the rainbow flag remains an important symbol of unity, these newer flags tell stories that are uniquely their own. So while this post isn’t officially part of the challenge itself, it felt like a natural continuation of the journey.
When I first saw Bubble Blvd, the latest collaboration between FOXCITY and Rosary for Collabor88, I expected the backdrop itself to be the star. After all, it would have been easy for it to be. What started as a simple car wash concept evolved into a complete destination experience featuring custom branding, landscaping, signage, running water, interactive elements, and enough personality to make it feel like a place rather than just a backdrop. The moment I arrived, I understood why.
