“Been a long time since I missed her
It’s been a while since I said her name
Now its coming in like a polaroid picture, and I remember everything
Old car with a star wars picture“
Tyler Hilton – Indian Summer
A couple of nights ago I couldn’t sleep, which happens more often than not. I tend to do my best thinking/writing/whatever you want to call it in the quiet darkness. It’s been that way as long as I can remember it. I think it’s a product of having less going on around me that allows me to run through my thoughts and then focus them.
This post is yet again not fashion focused and if that’s what you were looking for then I do apologize. In the interest of fairness I had intended for this scene to actually fit with an avatar in it’s earlier form. After I spent time working on it I realized that I didn’t want to taint it with trying to force the avatar into what it had become. There’s always next time.
Since coming back I truly have spent a great majority of my time 3500m up on a platform. Sure there is a house somewhere below it and I spend a little time in there every now and then but the platform is home. When I started laying this scene out it hit me that this could be, in a sense, my quiet space to just sit and think, listen to music, or even do nothing at all. In reality it’s a very simple space. Some rocks, a path up to a plateau with a tree and hammock. The small house of course with the decking going down to the water where a boat sits. For me, it’s peaceful. I need that from time to time.
I must have gone through at least 500 windlights to find ones that fit. There were a couple of them that did but I ended up having to make a few more of my own to go with my vibes. On those late nights it would fall into the one you see above. Dark and peaceful with a bright blue moon reflecting across the water. Nothing to disturb my thoughts anywhere around me. I am adding a windlights page here, which hopefully I get my butt around to asap with this post going up. (Which I did do, you can find two of the ones I’ve used so far on my new Windlights page.) They’re not on the level of some other amazing WL creators, but they’re mine and that’s good enough for me.
So where did my thoughts go the other night when I couldn’t sleep. Well like I said on Facebook I sat down and started to write. Then I wrote more, all the while listening to music and that led me to this. What would my world be without music? I have thought about that very thing often.
It’s kind of hard to say truthfully. I personally feel like it would be dead. For as long as I can remember music has played a role in where I’ve been and what I’ve done. Almost all of my best (and worst) memories are tied to a song that either was connected to it in the moment or one that I’ve come across that I relate to. Some bring back amazing thoughts and feelings. Others burn deeply, pain, fear, doubts, anger. All of them have their place.
My tastes in music are quite wide. Rock is my staple, one way or another I always find my way back to it. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only thing I listen to. Sometimes it’s country, yes country. I know Brennan will read this and kind of sigh but even he has grown to appreciate some of it. Other days it’s pop or singer/songwriter, even select hip-hop or rap artists find their way into my playlist. While I’m not as big on the latter two I’m smart enough to respect the artistry and skill that goes into it. In the end I honestly do believe I would either not be who I am, or I would just plain not be here without music.
When I came back to blogging I knew that music would play a role in it. It may not be in or fit every post, but there is always a soundtrack to the writing. Maybe eventually I’ll bring that more into focus with posts or something. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. So what would your world be without music? It sounds like a stupid question because I don’t think I’ve met anyone that doesn’t like some type of music. I guess there has to be someone out there doesn’t somewhere. Let me know what you think. I’ll save you more rambling, it’s late and my mind is starting to wander. G’night world.
