But I’ve Had My Moments

Yep. I know, this photo does not really show what we are wearing, the look on our faces, or anything I would normally do for a blog. That my friends is my point here. This photo and post is about the feeling. I’ve seen a lot of posts over the last month talking about “blogger requirements.” Those things are having to post a certain amount, needing a specific number of Flickr views, and followers. I understand that it’s a business thing and that the creators want to get the biggest audience they can. The issue for me is when the requirements are so tight that it truly sucks the enjoyment out of what you’re doing.

There was a time when I honestly loved doing photos, and a good amount of it was when I was blogging at my peak. Two, or three times a week with full credits and SLurls (that’s important remember.) To be fair none of the creators I had the honor to blog for had requirements that were outlandish. Every single person or event that I worked with was fantastic. I count many of them among my small circle of friends. After a while though it got to a point where I was just doing something to do it. I made do with it until it finally just was not working. The inspiration for things lagged behind and I stopped completely.

I did a lot of thinking about what and why and it really dawned on me when I started putting the idea for this shot together. I could have done it from the front to showcase what we wore, our Catwa heads, the emotions shown, and all of those things. But the picture would not have had the feeling that I wanted. Looking at it what we’re wearing doesn’t really matter. I wanted the warmth, the hues of light against the grass and trees, and love shared between two people to show. The feeling it gave me was just that, love.

I’m going forward with that kind of mindset from here on out (or at least trying my best to do so.) Doing it for just the joy of working on photos because I want to, not because I have to. If it gets favorites or comments awesome, and if it not, then in the end I’m happy because I did what I wanted to do. Sitting down this morning and kidnapping Portia to do a picture just because I liked the idea of it, priceless. ❤
