I woke up this morning and not long after saw the news that Harper Lee, beloved author of “To Kill A Mockingbird” had passed away. Now I have to be honest here, I am not nor have I ever been a big book reader. I don’t have any issue with them but they’ve just never been my thing. One book that I have read, more times then I can say for sure is “To Kill A Mockingbird.” I want to say just about any english class I took in school from about sixth grade on made us read it. I would guess it’s very similar for a lot of us, as it’s very widely used in classes nationwide. It’s a book I will always remember.
It’s crazy but respectable that Ms. Lee didn’t publish another book up until this past July. (That book, “Go Set a Watchman” has it’s own debate, which I’ll let you research yourself if you want to!) She preferred not being in the spotlight, instead choosing to live her life quietly in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama. I kind of love that she didn’t want the fame, or anything really associated with it. She was happy as she was. If you’ve never read “To Kill A Mockingbird” go find a copy, it’s really easy, and curl up with it. I know I’m going to be picking up a new copy of it asap. Rest in peace Ms. Lee, you will be greatly missed by so many.
