I suppose I should start this post off by introducing myself. My name is Lucky and I used to blog, once upon a time, never very seriously though. I stopped for a couple of years due to time and all that good stuff. Things changed not long ago and as I’ve spent more time with Portia, I have to say that bug is hitting me hard again. I’m not one for talking about myself so let’s get to the good stuff!
I have probably toyed with the idea of doing this post just about every day since the Slink Physique Male Mesh Body released back on September 4th. It was an item that I anticipated from the moment I heard Siddean Munro asking about male shapes. Let me tell you the wait was well worth it. In fairness I have to say that I did purchase the TMP male body previously. While I did like it to a degree it just wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I have to say that my two biggest issues with it were the price (L$5000) and the HUD for it. The Slink body is priced far more reasonable and fits seamlessly with the Avatar Enhancement hands and feet, which for me, and I’m sure most of the men on the grid, is fantastic.
I’m sure the first question is “Okay Lucky, what all am I going to get if I purchase this?” Well I have an easy answer to that. For the very reasonable price of L$1,250 you get the following:
- Physique MALE Mesh Body
- Physique Male Boxer Shorts
- Physique Mens Basic Tank (Stone)
- Physique Mens Stovepipe Jeans (Stone)
- Six Skin Blender Tattoos
- Six Physique Base Skins
- Five Different Alpha Layers
- Two Shapes
- Default Brow Shape
- Clothing & Alpha HUD
- RGB HUD
The Physique Male Mesh body is available in store or on the marketplace. I felt like it was an exceptionally good deal and purchased it without even demoing. I have a tendency to trust Slink products after numerous prior purchases from them. As always though, demoing is probably a good idea just to see how it will on you as you are. I had to make some alterations to my shape to achieve the look I wanted since mesh bodies tend to be slimmer. All in all the shape changing only took me about 10-15 minutes and I had what I was looking for.
The biggest thing to keep in mind when modifying your shape is to keep the fat slider between 0-5. Anything above that tends to not work out well. Siddean recommends using the thickness, torso, and leg muscle sliders to add bulk. The other key is to use the XS Avatar Enhancement hands and feet. They fit the body regardless of the slider settings.
Something new that was added with the body is Omega Support. you will need to purchase the Slink activator for L$99 from Love -n- Lust Designs and use it with your Physique body and your Omega HUD. All of the hands and feet, as well as the Female Physique body and Visage heads have been updated to have Omega Support as well. Make sure you visit the Slink store and update any items you already have!
**Please remember that the Avatar Enhancement hands and feet are NOT included with the purchase of the body. The hands are available in store and on marketplace for L$450 each, L$1,250 for packs of 5, or the full pack for L$2,250. The feet are available in store and on the marketplace for L$675**
The Clothing and Alpha utilities HUD is pretty easy to use in my opinion. Anyone who has used any type of HUD in Second Life should have little to no difficulty understanding it. That being said I’ll go over it below just to be safe.
The top section of it contains all of the alpha options for the body. You can alpha the torso, midriff, pelvis, arms and legs. The body also has a penis, it is not a functional one, but it gives a complete look to those who could be new to the grid or just don’t care to have the functional type. You can choose to show or hide it with just a click on the HUD. I didn’t photograph it since I don’t use it, but I can assure you that is well made for it’s purpose.
The middle section of the HUD contains all of your layer options for tattoos, underwear, and clothing. Each section functions independent of the others. It also has the Alpha Masks for each layer. I’ve found that I use the Clothing alpha mask when layering an applier shirt over my existing tattoos. Sometimes they like to disappear if I don’t.
The bottom section has the six included skin options which match the system skins that are included in the package. There are bald, and hairy options for each one giving you whichever options you should like. You also get three boxer applier options. You can choose from grey, red, or black. Finally there are five save spots for saving different Alpha setups. They give you the option to save and apply with just a click. For example using one for wearing shorts, one for pants and long sleeve shirts, and maybe one for a t-shirt and shorts. Those are just some of my personal uses.
I wanted to quickly talk about the clothing that comes with the body. Siddean has included a Mens Basic Tank (Stone), Mens Stovepipe Jeans (Stone), and grey male boxer shorts. Each item fits beautifully to the body. I’m such a big fan of the boxers that I will be buying more of them whenever they are released. There are more colors of the Basic Tank and Stovepipe jeans available in the main store as well. Here’s a quick rundown of the options:
Mens Basic Tank – L$199 each or L$499 for a pack of 6.
- Solids (White, Black, Red, Grey, Khaki, & Navy)
- Prints (Charm, Cream Stripe, Bear, Camo, Teal Rugby, & Longhorn)
Mens Stovepipe Jeans – L$350 each or L$825 for the full pack. They are available in Acid, Aqua, Black, Blue, Grey, Red, or Indigo.
This next item was not released with the body, but I felt like it was something that I wanted to cover as I truly love the abilities that it gives you. The Personal HUD allows anyone who creates their own skin/tattoo/clothing/makeup layers to apply them to their Slink Physique, Visage and Avatar Enhancement body parts. I love that we can easily make our own designs and apply them without a ton of headaches and challenge. It’s as easy as making the texture, naming it properly for the area it’s targeted, and Ctrl-Drag textures to the “Drop Textures Here” Field on the HUD. So for example if you were doing a tattoo layer for your torso, you would name the texture TORSO-TATT. Then hold Ctrl and drag it onto the “Drop Textures Here” field on the tattoo tab of the HUD. Then you click apply and it shows up. Make sure you have your tattoo layer for the torso enabled of course! Instructions for other areas are included with the Personal HUD which you can pick up for free at Slink.
All in all I’ve been exceptionally impressed with the design of the body, how it fits out of the box, as well the options it gives. I would love to see more alpha options for those odd pieces of clothing, but knowing Siddean that’s something that will happen with time. I know the Female Physique has seen revisions since it’s release as all mesh bodies do. I think for the price and what you get it is well worth the investment. I will be happily wearing mine as my sweetheart Portia loves it almost as much as I do ❤
